My Reiki Journey
My Reiki journey started when I was looking for natural ways to help my own health. I had been told many times throughout my life that I had healing hands and I should explore Reiki. Somehow though I was not ready to listen. At this stage, I had been living in Northern Ireland for around six years, but I was still very homesick, missing my family and unhappy in my job. I was having reflexology and kinesiology to help with my stress, but I literally felt the weight of the world on my shoulders and it was not shifting.
My turning point came in 2002 when I fell off my motorbike and I broke my collarbone. The bone took five months to heal with the ongoing threat of surgery, pins and plates. It highlighted to me that conventional medicine was limited in what it could do to help me and I really needed to take responsibility for my own health. In 2003, I found the lovely Carolyn McKittrick-Jackson and had my first Reiki session. I knew instinctively that Reiki was what I needed and persuaded her to attune me. Soon after, I opened my first practice in Northern Ireland and travelled to London to train as Reiki Master. I have been using Reiki for myself and to help others since then. This experience led me to teach others about self-healing, self-development and how they to can help others.
What Can Reiki Help With?
Absolutely anything! I truly believe there are no limitations to our healing potential only our belief systems which can also be healed with the right approach. Although I cannot make any guarantees it certainly is worth trying this beautiful, but powerful healing energy.
How Many Sessions Will I Need?
The amount of sessions required depends on the individual and their conditions. For some, one session is enough to help to get them back on track and for others, regular sessions are necessary. I use techniques to help determine what is right for you going forwards although the choice is always yours. I do recommend a minimum of three sessions for everyone.
What is Reiki?
Reiki is a Japanese word meaning Universal Life (Rei) Energy (Ki). Reiki is the vital life energy that flows through all living things, which can be activated to encourage healing. It is when this energy becomes blocked or stagnated that physical or emotional symptoms appear. The Reiki Practitioner / Master channels whatever vital life energy is needed, through their body and hands into the client, activating the body’s natural ability to heal.
There are hands-on energy healing techniques in every culture across the world with origins in ancient Tibet, Egypt, India, China and Japan to name but a few. There are many different types of “Reiki” and Seichim is the Egyptian form. All these treatments, regardless or name and spelling, involve the channelling of positive healing energy to stimulate the body’s own natural healing systems helping to balance mind, body and soul. They work most obviously on stress related conditions - the fundamental cause of most modern day illnesses. Reiki can be used alongside other conventional or complementary treatment and often helps to provide emotional support during recovery.
Although Reiki is a hands-on technique it is non-intrusive and does not involve manual manipulation. There is no diagnosis and the focus is on balancing the whole person rather than known symptoms which are often just the tip of the iceberg. There are no known contra-indications and anyone can benefit including children and animals. It is safe during pregnancy and can promote a sense of peace and acceptance for the dying and their families.
